Caramoan is Camarines Sur's Hidden Treasure
Hidden by it's remoteness, Caramoan is a paradise in Camarines Sur for the adventurous and the nature lover. The raw beauty of this peninsula, it's islands and caves, and it's white sandy beaches make it an exciting destination in the Bicol Region for scuba diving, snorkeling, rock climbing, kite boarding, kayaking, spelunking and camping.
Island hopping is also a very popular activity in Caramoan using bancas (pump boats) that are readily available for rent. An amazing site to see are it's rock formations as well as the crystal clear shallow waters and the deep blue sea. Personally I recommend camping or lodging by the sea for at least 3 days in this peninsula to experience being in solitude with love ones and friends.
Matukad Island is one of the most frequented island in the Caramoan peninsula. It's fine white sand beach and crystal clear water along with it's hidden lagoon and rock formation makes it a favorite for visitors. Another popular island is Lahus because of it's unique back to back white sand shores. Other exciting islands are Sabitang Laya, Lahuy, Minalahos, Pitogo and more.
How to get to Caramoan. From Cubao, take a bus to Naga city (night trip). From Naga city bus terminal take a 2 hour ride on a van, or jeepney to Sabang port. Trips are only from 4AM to 7AM so be sure not to miss it. From Sabang port, boat trips to Guijalo are from 7AM to 2PM and takes about 2 hours. From Guijalo take a jeepney ride to the town proper or Centro. Accommodations there are available and it can also serve as your base to all the destinations in the peninsula.
There are also tour package providers in Caramoan if you are on a budget. The advantages of a tour package is the convenience of a guided tour and cheap price. Doing it on your own can be a bit pricey but gives you more flexibility with your schedules and activities, as well as your choice of dining and accommodation.Lodging and camping by the sea are also available at La Playa Camp and Picnic Grounds.
